Place Name: Route Du Grand Colombier
Address: Route Du Grand Colombier, 01260 Arvière-en-Valromey, France
Details: With 80KM of completely flat roads before the Grand Columbier, making the break was always going to be a challenge. Larger riders would have the advantage on the flat while smaller riders would be the ones to challenge for a stage win.
After around 30KM, a group of about 20 got away. Once the riders hit the final climb of the Grand Columbier, the break split completely and the first attack was from Quentin Pacher of Groupama FDJ. He was quickly brought back and then dropped as James Shaw of EF, Maxim Van Gils of Lotto Dstny and Harold Tejada of Astana set the pace.
Michał Kwiatkowski of Ineos Grenadiers, fourth on the road, set his own rhythm and caught the three leaders. He didn't wait around and immediately attacked with over 9KM to the summit, holding on for a Polish victory on Bastille Day.
In the GC group, UAE set a very tough pace and only Sepp Kuss, Adam Yates, Jonas Vingegaard, and Tadej Pogačar remained. At 400M to go, Pogačar attacked hard and got a small gap on Vingegaard. He increased his gap and by the finish, taking 8 seconds on the yellow jersey as he keeps chipping away second by second.
