Tour de France 2023 Stage 1

The Grand Depart in the Basque Country saw a 5 rider break roll off the front right at the start. The pace ramped all day and the rider were caught at 50KM remaining. Felix Großschartner of UAE hit the Cote de Pike first and it was only Tadej Pogačar, Jonas Vingegaard, Adam Yates, and Victor Lafay remaining at the top. Simon Yates caught on over the top. Before we could tell who was in the group, the Yates twins were away. The worked together to finish and it was Adam Yates who took the win. It was his first Grand Tour Stage win and the first Yellow Jersey of the 2023 Tour. Pogačar finished next in third. Earlier in the day, Enric Mas of Movistar abandoned in a crash and Richard Carapaz went down as well. Carapaz finished a long way behind and both teams have lost their main GC rider.
