Santos Tour Down Under 2024 Stage 3

January 18, 2024 On Stage 3, Luke Burns was at it again as he tried to gather more points for the KOM jersey. Along with Burns was teammate Tristan Saunders, Axel Mariault, and Stephan De Bod. After the last KOM, Burns filtered back to the peloton. Mariault and De Bod did the same after the intermediate sprint. Saunders was caught and with 30km to go, teams got in their color order, all wanting postion before the decent on Gorge Road. At 10km to go there was a crash that had four riders down from Astana, a Bahrain Victorious rider and Luke Plapp of Jayco Alula who seemed to be the worst off. As hectic as the finish seemed, it went off to the script from day one as Bora Hansgrohe delivered Sam Welsford to his second win in three days.
