Giro d'Italia 2023 Stage 2

point
Place Name: Lungomare Cristoforo Colombo
Address: Lungomare Cristoforo Colombo, 66050 San Salvo Chieti, Italy
Details: Day two was promised to the sprinters. The profile was generally flat, making a long grind down the coast. Five riders made the break: Thomas Champion, Alessandro Verre, Paul Lapeira, Mattia Bais and Stefano Gandin. Intermediate sprints and some KOM points kept things moving but the game was over with 38KM to go. A crash at 4KM to go left Mads Pedersen without a leadout train as some of his teammates came down. Others stuck behind the crash were Jay Vine and Tao Geoghegan Hart who both lost time in the GC. In the sprint, Jonathan Milan came off of Kaden Groves' wheel to take the stage win and give Italy a stage win their home Grand Tour. David Dekker came across second, Groves in third.
