Giro d'Italia 2023 Stage 7

The first big mountain top finish was the showcase on Stage 7, finishing at over 2000M elevation. A long stage and mountain top finish quelled the fight for the break, but Simone Petilli , Karel Vacek, Henok Mulubrhan and Davide Bais took up the charge. The gap was thirteen minutes with 43KM remaining which gave the break some real hope that they could survive go for the win on the slopes of Gran Sasso d'Italia. The peloton never got interested in the stage and finished five minutes down on the break. At the front, Mulubrhan had been dropped and none of the other three riders could shake one another, resulting in a slow motion sprint finish. Petilli started first, momentarily dropping Vacek but Bais was on the case and came over the top for a momentous with for himself and Eolo-Kometa. Vacek finished second and Petilli faded to third. The GC group came in with nearly thirty riders and no change in the overall.
