Giro d'Italia 2023 Stage 8

An uncategorized 10KM uphill from the gun made for a frantic start. 80KM later, a group of five then another group of nine got away and joined forces at the front. A number of steep climbs highlighted the finish and Ben Healy wasted no time to move. He lifted the pace and broke free from the rest with 50KM still to ride. Shadow boxing amongst the twelve chasers allowed Healy's lead to keep extending, eventually getting comletely out of reach. Healy took home the win, continuing his incredible Spring campaign. In the peloton, Jumbo-Visma increased the pace, setting up an attack by Primož Roglič. Geraint Thomas and Tao Geoghegan Hart were able claw their way on to Roglič's wheel just over the top but Remco Evenepoel missed out. The gap would be fourteen seconds in the end, bringing Roglič within thirty seonds of Evenepoel in the Overall.
