Place Name: Largo Corrado Ricci
Address: Largo Corrado Ricci 40, 00184 Roma Rome, Italy
Details:
The race made the long transfer from Udine Province all the way down to Rome for the conclusion of this Giro. At 126KM, the circuit through Rome hit all of the major sites but with 70KM to go, riders got to racing with an attack from Cesare Benedetti of Bora-Hansgrohe, Toms Skujiņš of Trek-Segafredo, and Maxime Bouet of Arkéa Samsic. They would dangle out in front, never more than 40 seconds ahead, until 1 lap and 13KM to go. Geraint Thomas of Ineos got involved in the leadout with 2KM to go, sitting in front of the Astana train for his compatriot Mark Cavendish. Bahrain-Victorious had control under 1KM to go but it was Fernando Gaviria of Movistar who took it on from 300M out. Jonathan Milan of Bahrain-Victorious stepped out into the wind a bit early and faded from contention. Cavendish sat on Gaviria's wheel until the last 150M. He got around Gaviria and powered home to take his 17th Giro stage win. The rest of the bunch looked exhausted and Cavendish had enough time to raise his arms before the line. Alex Kirsch of Trek-Segafredo took second with Filippo Fiorelli of Bardiani CSF-Faizanè taking third. The final classifications include Primož Roglič of Jumbo-Visma taking Overall GC, Thibaut Pinot of Groupama-FDJ with the Mountains jersey, Jonathan Milan of Bahrain-Victorious won the ciclamino Sprint Classification, João Almeida of UAE took the White Youth Classification and Bahrain-Victorious won the Team's Classification.
