February 1, 2024 The early break formed around 5KM into the stage, consisting of seven riders: Gorka Sorarrain, Txomin Juaristi, Eugenio Sánchez, José María García, Sinuhé Fernández, Sébastien Van Poppel, Johan Meens. The peloton would not make the same mistake two days in a row, keeping the break around three minutes advantage. Lidl-Trek led up the chase, bringing back the break to just thirty seconds with 40KM remaining. The last climb, which topped out around 10KM from the finish provided a launch point for those not willing to risk it with the fast men in a sprint. Jan Christen was the first to move. Felix Großschartner, Aleksandr Vlasov, and Santiago Buitrago all tried their hand. At 6KM to go, Matej Mohorič attacked on the downhill run and would not be caught. Given the profile, everyone knew the possibility of Mohorič playing this card but they could do nothing about it. Giovanni Lonardi led the group home, thirteen second behind Mohorič.
