February 3, 2024 An aggressive start saw a break form at 45KM into the stage as the race hit the slopes of the first categorized climb. The members of the break included Manuele Tarozzi, Pelayo Sánchez, Sam Oomen, Mikel Bizkarra, Jokin Murguialday, James Whelan, and Alex Molenaar. The peloton kept the front riders at around two and a half minutes, but as news was coming in about the stage being shortened, the GC teams upped the tempo to bring the gap down. At the base of the final climb of Alto de Miserat, Bora-Hansgrohe rode the front for Aleksandr Vlasov. Farther up the climb, Brandon McNulty was the first to attack, Vlasov, Santiago Buitrago, and Welay Berhe were the ones able to respond. Back and forth between Vlasov and Buitrago saw Berhe go out the back door. When the steep ramps diminished, McNulty made the decisive attack that would seal his stage victory ahead of Buitrago and Vlasov.
