Classic Var 2024

February 16, 2024 A select group of climbing talent found themselves together on the final climb: Romain Bardet, Lenny Martinez, Michael Woods, Tobias Johannessen, Aurélien Paret-Peintre and David Gaudu. Bardet put in a blistering attack near the top, dropping Gaudu and Paret-Peintre. The others were multiple bike lengths back but the closest was Johannessen. Johannessen was able to claw his way back and counter Bardet for what seemed to be the decisive move. As Johannessen was rounding the last corner, he put his hands up to celebrate but it was twenty-five meters too early. Lenny Martinez was surging and kept his sprint to line, just pipping Johannessen for the win.
