Tour des Alpes-Maritimes 2024 Stage 1

February 17, 2024 Tour des Alpes-Maritimes is a two day race, but with many riders from the Classic Var the day before, it feels like a continuation. Andrea Mifsud and Morné Van Niekerk countered an initial break that was brought back, leaving the pair out in front for the majority of the day. They were unlikely to make it to finish but it was uncertain if the sprinters would survive the lumpy local circuit. The race really kicked off after the last intermediate sprint. Attacks and counters went, including a dangerous one with Romain Grégoire and Romain Bardet. Once they were brought back, attacks continued, all while Mifsud stayed out front. He was not caught until 1500M to go when Israel Premier Tech formed their lead out. As the reduced bunch of around 20 riders approached the line, Ethan Vernon of Israel Premier Tech launched and no one could come around. Sean Flynn stayed on Vernon's wheel but made no progress as they crossed the line.
