Tour des Alpes-Maritimes 2024 Stage 2

February 18, 2024 Early season sunlight of the Côte d'Azur washed over the riders throughout the day, creating quite a few nice camera shots for the TV. In the race, the sprinters owned the GC for Stage 1, but that all will change with a hilly route and finishing climb of Montée de la Sine on deck. Groupama-FDJ led the peloton and brought the break within just a few seconds without actually catching them. It was a bit of a tactical error as many others saw this as an opportunity to get away from the peloton and bridge up. In total, the front group swelled to fifteen. The front got too big however and split up, with Ewen Costiou of Arkéa–B&B Hotels and Steffen De Schuyteneer of Lotto-Dstny taking the lead. The others were swept up by the peloton led by Decathlon AG2R and DSM-Firmenich. Costiou attacked again and was able to stay away until 2.5KM but it all came down to a reduced sprint where Benoît Cosnefroy and Aurélien Paret-Peintre went one-two for Decathlon AG2R. Cosnefroy was also able to take the GC win.
