Details:
February 18, 2024 A 20 rider break took 65km to form. The peloton were in a holding pattern until Wout van Aert attacked from the bunch at 40km. He was solo for short time until Ben Healy of EF-Education EasyPost clawed his way up to join van Aert. Per Strand Hagenes dropped out of break and waited for his teammate van Aert. Hagenes would pace van Aert to the main breakaway and eventually into the virtual race lead. The finishing climb would be done twice and near the top on the first passage, Healy, van Aert and Gijs Leemreize of DSM-Firmenich got away from the rest. In the bunch, Soudal Quick-Step was chasing, assisted by Bora-Hansgrohe to keep Healy and van Aert in check. The trio still had fifty seconds with 14KM to go. The gap dwindled on the finishing circuit and leaders had just twenty seconds as they hit the foot of the climb for the last time. Bora-Hansgrohe led into the climb, bringing front back Healy, van Aert and Leemreize with 2KM remaining. There were a few attacks after but no one got separation. Remco Evenepoel led the sprint out with 200M remaining. Dani Martinez was able to respond and come around for the stage win, just like on Stage 2. Remco would hold on to GC for his third overall win in three appearances at the race.
