O Gran Camiño - The Historical Route 2024 Stage 3

February 24, 2024 Wet and cold conditions continued throughout Stage 3. Seven riders made the break and had five and half minutes lead with only 55KM to race. The break split to two riders but then partially came back together. The gap crumbled on the final climb under Movistar pressure. Jonas Vingegaard of Visma-Lease a Bike surprised the peloton by attacking with 21KM to go. He caught all breakaway riders but one as he crested the climb, catching Pablo Castrillo of Kern Pharma on the decent. It looked like Castrillo would be able to hold on to Vingegaard's wheel but he was eventually dropped on a downhill, leaving Vingegaard to go solo. The chase behind could never get organized and finished thirty seconds behind Vingegaard who now holds an overall advantage of over one minute.
