A larger fight for the break than in previous days given the profile and the long run down to the Adriatic Coast. Six made the break including Lorenzo Quartucci of Team Corratec-Vini Fantini, Davide Bais and Mirco Maestri of Team Polti Kometa, Alexander Kamp of Tudor Pro Cycling, Jonas Abrahamsen of Uno-X Mobility, Alex Tolio of Bardiani CSF-Faizanè. The peloton had the gap at one minute thirty but seemed to sit up and the gap blew out to over five minutes. By the time the riders hit the coast however, the bunch pulled back the break to just one minute. When the gap did reach a minute, the break split leaving just Maestri, Kamp, and Abrahamsen. The trio held a minute for nearly 20KM but a furious chase by Ineos, Alpecin-Deceuninck and Soudal Quickstep made the difference. Kamp and Maestri were caught at 1KM to go but Abrahamsen accelerated to stay clear. No team could get organized allowing Abrahamsen to gain ground. In the last 500M, Tom Pidcock of Ineos sacrificed himself and brought the entire group along. He pulled off and the remaining sprinters took off. Biniam Girmay of Intermarché-Wanty looked to have the speed but tied up in the end. Jasper Philipsen of Alpecin-Deceuninck had the run on the right side of the road but Jonathan Milan of Lidl-Trek had the power from the center to get passed Girmay and fend off Philipsen to take the win and extend his lead in the sprinter's jersey. Our lone leader was caught at 75M to go but put on an incredible performance.
