Louis Meintjes of Intermarché-Wanty won the stage from the breakaway but the celebration was subdued. A crash with around 36KM to go in the stage forced the race organizers to neutralized the peloton. The crash took down Jonas Vingegaard of Visma-Lease a Bike, Primož Roglič of Bora-Hansgrohe, and Remco Evenepoel of Soudal Quickstep among others. The three main contenders for the race overall had to abdandon due to their injuries leaving Mattias Skjelmose of Lidl-Trek to assume the race lead.
