April 14, 2024 33 climbs and Monument distance to race for the riders under mostly sunny and warm conditions. Four riders made the break including Tosh Van Der Sande of Visma-Lease a Bike, Enzo Leijnse of DSM-Firmenich, Alexander Hajek of Bora-Hansgrohe, and Zeb Kyffin of TDT-Unibet. Their lead was down to 20 seconds after the first ascent of the Cauberg and they were caught at 75KM remaining. Louis Vervaeke of Soudal Quickstep tried a few times and eventually got out of the peloton, bringing Mikkel Honoré of EF-Education EasyPost and Paul Lapeira of Decathlon AG2R with him at 57KM to go. The next move was the first from the big favorites. Michał Kwiatkowski of Ineos attacked into the Gulperbergweg and Mathieu van der Poel of Alpecin-Deceuninck closed the gap, bringing all of the contenders right to the front. Vervaeke was dropped on the Eyserbosweg leaving two at the front. In the peloton over the top of the Eyserbosweg, Bauke Mollema of Lidl-Trek, Roger Adrià of Bora-Hansgrohe, Valentin Madouas of Groupama-FDJ, and Marc Hirschi of UAE attacked. Quentin Pacher of Groupama-FDJ and Mauri Vansevenant of Soudal Quickstep bridged over the Fromberg. Kévin Vauquelin of Arkéa-B&B Hotels, Tom Pidcock of Ineos, Pello Bilbao of Bahrain-Victorious and Tiesj Benoot of Visma-Lease a Bike bridged as well, making 10 riders in the chase group just before the start of the Keutenberg. Honoré and Lapeira were caught on the Keutenberg but managed to stay with the group over the top. Their gap back to the peloton grew to 40 seconds as they hit the Cauberg for the last time. Pidcock, Vansevenant, Hirschi and Benoot broke out of the lead group and had 11 seconds on the final climb of the day of the Bemelerberg. The front four kept their lead under the 1KM banner with the chase group behind still at 12 seconds. Vansevenant was first to sprint at 300M, the others waited. Then Pidcock went at 200M and was able to keep Hirschi and Benoot behind to finally take his victory in the Amstel Gold race.
