Rain, fog and cold has set into the Austrian Tyrol for Stage 3, making it one of the coldest race days of the year. Filippo Ganna of Ineos set off in the break and went alone. With 60KM remaining, he had a three and half minute lead on a peloton led by DSM-Firmenich, Decathlon AG2R, and EF-Education EasyPost. As Ganna hit the first climb of the Weerberg, the peloton were charging in team order to get into position for the climb. He had two and half minutes at the bottom but only forty five seconds by the top. Ganna was finally reeled in on the Pillberg with 28KM to go. Romain Bardet of DSM-Firmenich made the first move but race leader Tobias Foss of Ineos kept him tight and brought him back after 1KM. Giulio Pellizzari of Bardiani-CSF-Faizanè was next to go with Juan Pedro López of Lidl-Trek latching on. The pair went over the Pillberg with 17 seconds on a peloton of about 25 riders. They held their gap on the loop back around to the Weerberg for the second time. They started the climb with 50 seconds, keeping 40 seconds by the top with just the Pillberg remaining before the finish. Lopez attacked Pellizari with 2KM left on the Pillberg. He crested the Pillberg with 20 seconds to Pellizari and 50 seconds to the favorites group. Lopez kept his gap to take the win as well as the GC lead. Pellizari came in second place with Foss leading the favorites group in for third.
