A group of seven led the race from the peloton of 25 riders and had a 3 minute gap with 70KM to go. Rain made the Ribinou muddy in spots but it kept the dust down for the Groupama-FDJ led peloton. A large group of 25 more riders joined the main chase of 25, making a larger peloton with 14 sectors and 49KM to race. 15 more riders joined the peloton with 44KM to go as they crossed through the finish for the first time on the local circuit. The peloton was shredded on Ribin 11 which left only 15 to chase the remaining 4 riders in the front. Arnaud De Lie of Lotto-Dstny had a puncture but his teammates did a big job to close nearly 90 seconds to get him back to the main group. Lotto-Dstny went straight to the front to keep De Lie in a good position now that the peloton had swelled to around 40 riders. Morné Van Niekerk of St Michel-Mavic-Auber93 was the last survivor of the break, he took the bell for the final lap with 17 seconds advantage. Van Niekerk was caught with 6.5KM to go as De Lie made a big move on Ribin 2, followed by Pierre Gautherat of Decathlon AG2R and Riley Sheehan of Israel-Premier Tech. Arkéa-B&B Hotels and Uno-X Mobility each had 2 riders in the group of 6 chasers and were able to get back on terms to make 9 at the front with 1.8KM to go. The final KM was very tactical but it all stayed together. De Lie came around the outside of Gautherat to take the win by 2 bike lengths. Clément Venturini of Arkéa-B&B Hotels came around for second with Gautherat fading to third.
