May 10, 2024 A 40.6KM ITT for Stage 7 is the longest Giro ITT in 9 years. The first 34KM was flat but the riders turned left for the final 6.6KM up the hill to the town of Perugia. 2023 U23 ITT champion Lorenzo Milesi of Movistar took a quick early time. Mikkel Bjerg was next in the hot seat, beating Milesi's time by 16 seconds. Filippo Ganna of Ineos was flying on course. By the time Ganna had crossed the line, he caught 8 riders and smashed Bjerg's time by 1 minute 39 seconds. The favorites started their rides later in the day as the wind started to pick up. Ineos had packed riders in the top 10 with Magnus Sheffield and Thymen Arensman in second and third respectively in the preliminary results. Dani Martinez of Bora-Hansgrohe who had started the day in third place in GC was down on Ganna over 2 minutes at the bottom of climb but stormed up and took over 40 sec on Ganna in just the 6KM. Next off the ramp was Geraint Thomas of Ineos then finally Tadej Pogačar of UAE. After 18KM, Pogačar was 8 seconds up on Thomas but had extended his lead on Thomas to over 40 seconds just 16KM later at the base of the climb. At the bottom of the climb, Pogačar was down 47 seconds on Ganna but climbed faster than everyone else. By the finish line, Pogacar had beaten Ganna by 17 seconds to take the win and extend his GC lead. Ganna took second place with Sheffield holding on for third. Dani Martinez put in a good enough effort to overtake Thomas for second in GC.
