The ITT took the riders on a fast and generally flat route to the Southern shore of Lake Garda. All of the talk pre-race was on Filippo Ganna of Ineos and if he could hold off Tadej Pogačar of UAE from taking another ITT. Ganna took over the hot seat with a finishing average speed of 53.4KM/H for 35 minutes. Thymen Arensman of Ineos was the big mover on GC, leapfrogging four positions to move up the sixth by the end of the day. Geraint Thomas of Ineos also put in a good ITT, reversing the result of the last ITT by pushing Dani Martinez of Bora-Hansgrohe back to third overall. Pogačar rolled off last so he had all of the best intermediate and finish time checks to reference. He get through the first check point four seconds ahead of Ganna but was down ten by the second check. Pogačar ended the stage in second place, 29 seconds down on Ganna but extending his lead to the rest of the GC contenders. After all of the times were tallied, Pogačar holds a 3 minute 41 second lead ahead of Thomas and nearly 4 minutes on Martinez. An honorable mention should go out to Magnus Sheffield of Ineos. He held the second fastest time on Ganna through the second time check but hit the deck with around 6KM to go. He was able to remount and finish the stage in twelfth place.
