Place Name: D 101
Address: D 101, 42920 Chalmazel-Jeansagnière, France
Details:
June 3, 2024 It was unclear if the sprinters would be confident enough to put their teams to the chase given the gradual climbing for nearly 25KM to the finish. Bruno Armirail of Groupama-FDJ, Jonas Gregaard of Lotto-Dstny, Filippo Conca of Q36.5, Mathis Le Berre of Arkéa-B&B Hotels and Xandro Meurisse of Alpecin-Deceuninck got up the road to gamble on a stage win. They had a gap of 4 minutes 20 seconds with 68KM to go as Bora-Hansgrohe, Israel-Premier Tech and Groupama-FDJ led the peloton. The break started their uphill slog at 25KM to go with a lead reduced to 2 minutes 40 seconds. The peloton had been riding hard and at 12KM to go, Armirail attacked the break to preserve his lead, now down to 40 seconds. Armirail held 22 seconds with 2KM to go, pulling himself inside out to stay away. Armirail went into the mist with 500M to go but the dark form of the peloton were closing in through the fog. He was caught at 200M as Magnus Cort of Uno-X Mobility emerged out of the fog and into sight. Cort held on to win, with Primož Roglič of Bora-Hansgrohe on his wheel for second and Matteo Jorgenson of Visma-Lease a Bike just behind in third. Cort takes over the GC overall by 4 seconds on Roglič.
