Mathis Le Berre of Arkéa-B&B Hotels got up the road once again to pick up more mountains points before the race reaches the higher elevations. He was joined by Ådne Holter of Uno-X Mobility and Tobias Bayer of Alpecin-Deceuninck. Lidl-Trek and Decathlon AG2R controlled in the peloton in hopes of getting one last sprint opportunity in this year's race. Holter hit the deck pretty hard on a wet, left hand corner with 77KM to go. Le Berre and Bayer slowed up, letting Holter rejoin about 10KM later. Holter lost contact on a descent with 40KM to go on roads that turned dry to wet from one corner to the next. Le Berre was next to lose contact with Bayer on a downhill due to the slick roads. Just as Bayer went away, a large crash occurred in the back of the peloton at 37KM to go. Off the descent, Le Berre got back to Bayer and started to grow the gap to 2 minutes with 32KM remaining as the peloton regathered themselves. A switched flipped in the peloton, turning on the pace but chaos struck again. At least 50 riders in the peloton came down and the organizers neutralized the race immediately. After nearly 30 minutes of examination, the decision was made to neutralize the remainder of the stage, there would be no winner and no time taken.
