Eleven riders made the break, forming over the top of the Col des Saisies. Their lead was just over 4 minutes as they hit the slopes of the Col de la Ramaz in the spritzing rain. Marc Soler of UAE went off solo about half way up the climb with 46.5KM to go. A group of five chasers formed from the original break, Koen Bouwman of Visma-Lease a Bike, Darren Rafferty of EF-Education EasyPost, Warren Barguil of DSM-Firmenich, Nicolas Prodhomme of Decathlon AG2R, and Lorenzo Fortunato of Astana. Soler went over the top of the Col de la Ramaz with 1 minute 40 second advantage over the chasers and 5 minutes 30 seconds to the peloton. Soler hit the flat road, 10KM before the final climb to Samoëns and 20KM from the finish with his gap intact. Davide Formolo of Movistar was able to get the chasing group on descent, making six in chase. The race was starting to close in when Soler hit Samoëns however. His lead to the chasers had grown to 2 minutes but the peloton was coming back fast, now at just over 4 minutes. Second place in GC, Remco Evenepoel of Soudal Quickstep was dropped around 7KM from the finish. Aleksandr Vlasov of Bora-Hansgrohe set a hard pace in the favorites group and had Soler within 90 seconds with 4KM still to climb, catching him 2KM later. In the last KM, Vlasov pulled off at 600M, Oier Lazkano of Movistar incredibly was still there and made a move toward to get away but was followed by the group. Primož Roglič of Bora-Hansgrohe finally made his move at 200M with Matteo Jorgenson of Visma-Lease a Bike on the wheel. Jorgenson couldn't do more than follow, finishing second to Roglič who took his second win in as many days. Giulio Ciccone of Lidl-Trek looked good as well today, coming in just behind in third place.
