The Nufenenpass was deemed impassable due to heavy snow, leaving the organizers no choice but to start the stage at the base of the mountain where the descent would have ended. The resulting stage would be just 42.5KM's with the mountain top finish up to Blatten-Belalp. Frank van den Broek of DSM-Firmenich, Stefan Bissegger of EF-Education EasyPost, and Anders Foldager of Jayco AlUla got up the road but, given the short stage, they had very few kilometers to gain time on the peloton before the climb. The leading trio started the 7KM climb with just 1 minute 10 seconds on the bunch. UAE went as hard as they could from the bottom, letting Adam Yates fly with 3.5KM to go. Yates held a gap of 5 seconds back to Mattias Skjelmose of Lidl-Trek, Egan Bernal of Ineos, and João Almeida of UAE. Almeida bridge up to Yates with 1.5KM to go after using up Skjelmose and Bernal. He towed Yates to 250M from the line when Yates started to leave a gap. Almeida took the win 4 seconds ahead of Yates with Skjelmose at 9 seconds and Bernal at 15 seconds. With the time bonuses, Almeida moves closer to Yates in GC at just 27 seconds with one more mountain stage an ITT to go.
