Tour de Suisse 2024 Stage 8

June 16, 2024 The race finishes off with a 16KM ITT from the valley in Aigle up to Villar-sur-Ollon. The overall was sealed for UAE. The only question was whether it would be Adam Yates or João Almeida to take the top step. Most riders decided to start on the TT bike then swap to the road machine before the climb. Lenny Martinez of Groupama-FDJ set the benchmark time with all of the main contenders still to come. Tom Pidcock of Ineos was the first to better Martinez, but only by 4 seconds. Matthew Riccitello of Israel-Premier Tech was next to go in the hot seat beating Pidcock by 13 seconds. Mattias Skjelmose of Lidl-Trek was next in, putting 17 seconds into Riccitello but Almeida and Yates proved that they were the best two riders of the week. Almeida won the stage, 8 seconds ahead of Yates and 20 seconds ahead of Skjelmose. In the GC, Yates took top honors, 22 seconds ahead of Almeida. Egan Bernal of Ineos had a difficult ITT, ceding the podium to Skjelmose who finished 3 minutes and 2 seconds down on Yates for third place.
