A memorial to Henri Desgranges sits near the summit of the Col du Galibier. Desgranges is credited with founding the Tour de France in 1903 and a prize is given each year for the rider that passes first over the highest point of the race. The summit used in the Tour de France in 2024 on Stage 4.
