Address: 5 Cours Du Général De Gaulle, 21000 Dijon, France
Details:
July 4, 2024 The race heads North from Mâcon to Dijon, following the A6 motorway on what is a flat stage set for the sprinters. There were no immediate attackers but the peloton was on edge as the rain started to gently fall and the wind was swirling. On the first categorized climb of the day, Jonas Abrahamsen of Uno-X Mobility got up the road to grab the solitary mountains point available. Axel Zingle of Cofidis joined him and they pressed on with 152KM to go. Abrahamsen and Zingle sat up with 134KM to go, right before the intermediate sprint. Mads Pedersen of Lidl-Trek contested the sprint after his heavy fall in yesterday's sprint but Jasper Philipsen of Alpecin-Deceuninck took maximum points. The first hostilities began with 94KM to go as the wind picked up. It was not strong enough to split the bunch but was enough to make everyone nervous. Visma-Lease a Bike put the hammer down with 81KM to go with a cross tail wind through the prestigious vineyards of Montrachet. UAE were almost entirely stuck in the second group but they came back at 70KM to go with a sigh of relief. GC teams were set on blocking the road and racing for corners until 10KM to go when the sprint teams took their place to do the same. Under 3KM to go, Uno-X Mobility looked superb with Bahrain-Victorious just behind. Jayco AlUla came up through the last corner to challenge Uno-X Mobility and Alpecin-Deceuninck who had just arrived. Trains were all across the road as it tipped up with 200M to go. Philipsen started his sprint, protecting his right on the barriers. Arnaud De Lie of Lotto-Dstny came through the center but Dylan Groenewegen of Jayco AlUla came fast from behind De Lie to his left side to take the win by half a wheel from Philipsen. The jury deemed Philipsen to have closed off Wout van Aert of Visma-Lease a Bike on the barriers and was relegated. Biniam Girmay of Intermarché-Wanty was given second place, consolidating his lead in the Green Jersey, with Fernando Gaviria of Movistar taking third.
