The day after a rest day can be tricky to get right but given the near flat route between Orléans and Saint-Amand-Montrond, it should be a straightforward sprint day.
Next to nothing happened for the first 120KM but with 62KM to go, teams started to fight for position with the threat of cross winds looming. The wind never materialized and calm was restored until 10KM to go when the sprint trains formed.
Under 1KM to go, Visma-Lease a Bike and Alpecin-Deceuninck had control at the front. Alpecin-Deceuninck finally nailed their lead out, giving Jasper Philipsen an arm chair ride to 170M to go. He was alone at the front when he started his sprint and he would cross the line a few bike lengths ahead of Biniam Girmay of Intermarché-Wanty and Pascal Ackermann of Israel-Premier Tech.
