Details:
July 16, 2024 With the second rest day passed, the riders re-mount to take on 190 Kilometers along the Southern coast from Gruissan to Nîmes with the potential for wind in the back of their minds. Next to nothing happened however until 96KM to go when the sprint teams set up for the Intermediate Sprint. Intermarché-Wanty led it out but Bryan Coquard of Cofidis went long at 300M and had the speed to take maximum points. Thomas Gachignard of TotalEnergies attacked the peloton when the sprinters sat up to be the first and only attacker of the day. Silvan Dillier of Alpecin-Deceuninck did the lions share of the work in the peloton with help from Chris Juul Jensen of Jayco AlUla. Gachignard's gap got up to 2 minutes 20 seconds but was reeled in with 25KM to go. With 2KM to go, Lotto-Dstny and Uno-X Mobility had control with Astana taking the center. The bunch went through a round-about with 1.7KM to go and a few riders went down including Green Jersey Biniam Girmay of Intermarché-Wanty. Jonas Abrahamsen of Uno-X Mobility took over with 1KM to go and stretched the front into one line but he had the Alpecin-Deceuninck train on his wheel with two riders in front of Jasper Philipsen. Philipsen had clean air all around and sprinted to the win for his third of the Tour. Phil Bauhaus of Bahrain-Victorious came in next with Alexander Kristoff of Uno-X Mobility in for third. Philipsen cut the gap to the Green Jersey to just 36 points but with no sprint stages left, he will have to try to gain the advantage in Intermediates.
