Ethias-Tour de Wallonie 2024 Stage 1

July 22, 2024 The Tour de Wallonie kicks off the day after the Tour de France and finishes the day before the Olympic ITT. The break was captured with 52KM to go, resetting the race for the finale into Fleurus. Tudor Pro Cycling took the front of the peloton to control for a sprint but it did not dissuade attacks. Benoît Cosnefroy of Decathlon AG2R attacked the bunch on a cobbled segment and took 3 bonus seconds in an Intermediate Sprint. A group of 6 formed but the peloton brought it quickly back together. At 1.2KM to go, the camera motor bike went the wrong direction and caused a crash taking out the Tudor Pro Cycling train. In the sprint, Groupama-FDJ set their lead out on the right side of the road, Intermarché-Wanty was in the center with Redbull-Bora Hansgrohe on the left. It was a drag race to the finish but Jordi Meeus of Redbull-Bora Hansgrohe took the win ahead of Madis Mihkels of Intermarché-Wanty and Paul Penhoët of Groupama-FDJ.
