July 25, 2024 A five man break went up the road but not before Matteo Trentin of Tudor Pro Cycling took 3 bonus seconds at the first Intermediate Sprint, bringing the GC gap to just 4 seconds. The break had just under 3 minutes with 60KM to go as the race approached the Côte de la Redoute. The five leaders were Michael Gogl of Alpecin-Deceuninck, Cole Kessler of Lidl-Trek, Lorenzo Milesi of Movistar, Liam Slock of Lotto-Dstny, and William Blume Levy of Uno-X Mobility. Israel-Premier Tech, Groupama-FDJ and Intermarché-Wanty led the peloton, pulling the break down to just 1 minute 10 seconds with 28KM to go and leaving little doubt about a bunch sprint. Blume Levy was dropped on the drag passed the last Intermediate Sprint with 20KM to go, leaving four out front with 50 seconds as Groupama-FDJ ramped up the pace in the peloton. Slock was the last man standing from the break, attacking with the peloton in sight behind. Slock was caught at 3KM to go. A group of four tried to break clear with 2KM to go but they were caught 500M from the line which made the sprint very messy. Decathlon AG2R and TotalEnergies each took a turn in the lead out but it was every man for themselves at 300M to go. Emilien Jeannière of TotalEnergies was first to strike but Matteo Trentin came around on the right side of the road and had the speed to finish it off for a win. Timo Kielich of Alpecin-Deceuninck pushed Trentin close but ran out of road, finishing second. Jeannière was able to hold on for third place. Trentin took 13 bonus seconds on the stage, moving him into the race lead by 6 seconds with one stage to go.
