The Individual Time Trial was held on the first day of competition in the 2024 Olympic Games. Rain had been falling for hours before the start and never relented. Since the 32.4KM route ran through central Paris, it would be slick on the painted pedestrian crossings.
Mathias Vacek of the Czech Republic set a quick early time as riders started to stack up behind. Stefan Bissegger of Switzerland was first to overtake Vacek but it wouldn't last long. Wout van Aert of Belgium came in, beating Bissegger by 1 full minute. Filippo Ganna of Italy was next in, 10 seconds ahead.
Remco Evenepoel of Belgium would not be denied however. He led through all intermediate checks and took the Gold medal, 15 seconds ahead of Ganna at a finishing speed of 53.7KM/H.
