Five riders kicked off the 2024 edition of the Arctic Race of Norway by heading up the road, including Nathan Smith of Novo Nordisk, Mikel Retegi of Equipo Kern Pharma, Jelle Johannink of TDT Unibet, Pascal Eenkhoorn of Lotto-Dstny, and Kalle Kvam of Coop-Repsol. They were not allowed much rope, at 82KM to go, they only had 1 minute.
Kvam was last man standing with 38KM to race but a slight drag allowed counter attacks to start. Jayco AlUla took control, brought the race back together and set the pace. Tudor Pro Cycling and TotalEnergies were aggressive on the final climb but no one was able to get more than 10 seconds on the peloton and it was all together with 16KM to go, setting the stage for a likely bunch sprint.
The run in was quite technical but Uno-X Mobility had the team all in a line with 2KM to go. Uno-X Mobility still had control through the final corner at 950M. Magnus Cort was their final lead out man, dropping Alexander Kristoff off at 175M. Kristoff started his sprint and had the better of the competition. Emilien Jeannière of TotalEnergies looked like he may be able to get around on the barriers but the door closed in just enough for him to back off and had to settle for fourth. Milan Fretin of Cofidis came through the center to take second with Tom Van Asbroeck of Israel-Premier Tech in third.
