The Queen stage of this years race takes the riders 138KM and up four categorized climbs including the HC climb to Lagunas de Neila.
Nicolas Vinokurov of Astana, Jetse Bol of Burgos-BH, Alex Díaz of Caja-Rural, and Germán Darío Gómez of Polti-Kometa went up the road early but their lead was kept around 2 minutes by Redbull-Bora Hansgrohe. Bol attacked the break with 30KM to go as the peloton were inching closer, now under 1 minute.
The route in the last 30KM took the riders up the first 10KM of the final climb before turning off, circling around and doing the full 11KM climb. Bol was caught 3KM before the top of the first passage of the Alto de Rozavientos, 23KM to the finish.
There was almost a full peloton with 7KM to go but only 10 riders managed to be at the front in the final 2KM. Victor Lafay of Decathlon AG2R put in the first attack. He was brought back and Sepp Kuss of Visma-Lease a Bike countered with 1600M to go. Jefferson Cepeda of Caja Rural was able to cling on. Kuss increased the pace with 900M to go, dropping Cepeda. Kuss crossed the line for a nice win after a difficult season. Lorenzo Fortunato of Astana finished 7 seconds later, just passing Cepeda 25M before the finish.
