August 19, 2024 Much like yesterday, Euskaltel-Euskadi and Equipo Kern Pharma were eager to get out in front for some break away kilometers. Ibon Ruiz of Equipo Kern Pharma was joined by Unai Iribar and Luis Ángel Maté of Euskaltel-Euskadi had Xabier Isasa for company. The four went from kilometer 0 and had 4 minutes 30 seconds near the base of Alto de Teixeira with 120KM to race. The break went over the final categorized climb at 41.5KM to go with a gap that had been reduced down to just 1 minute. Isasa went solo on the descent but was caught with 20KM to go as the positioning game began. At 1.8KM to go. Victor Campenaerts of Lotto-Dstny took a flyer but Alpecin-Deceuninck and enough riders to draw him back with 900M to go. Alpecin-Deceuninck kept the train going until just over 200M to go when Wout van Aert of Visma-Lease a Bike started his sprint. He went from third wheel, around Kaden Groves of Alpecin-Deceuninck. He quickly was in fresh air and enough of a jump on Groves to take the win, extending his lead on GC. Groves finished in second place with Jon Aberasturi of Euskaltel-Euskadi taking a great third place.
