UCI World Championship ITT 2024

point
Place Name: Utoquai
Address: Utoquai 21, 8001 Zürich, Switzerland
Details: September 22, 2024 59 riders will take to the start at the Oerlikon Velodrome. The 46.1KM route has around 400M elevation but should be an honest test to crown another World Champion against the clock. As the early riders started and finished, they would beat the previous rider and push the average speed higher and higher. Reigning champion Remco Evenepoel of Belgium was last to roll off but as he clipped in on the start ramp, the chain dropped and the time was ticking down to his official start. The mechanic got it back on in time but it would have sent the heart rate up. Out on course, Jay Vine of Australia was putting in a potential medal performance but crashed in the final kilometers and crossed the line covered in dirt and blood. Edoardo Affini of Italy put in Intermediate times that were best up to that point. He came in to the finish 36 seconds up at an average speed over 51KM/HR. Former World ITT Champion Filippo Ganna of Italy was second to last to start and went through the last time check 44 seconds up on Vine but shortly after, Evenepoel put 19 seconds into him at the same check. Ganna crossed the line 48 seconds ahead of Affini but Evenepoel was charging toward the line. He stopped the clock in the green by six seconds to defend his title and become the first male rider to win Olympic ITT Gold in the same year as the World Championship ITT.
