The break of four including Rodrigo Álvarez of Burgo Burpellet BH, Mohammed Al-Wahibi and Said Alrahbi of the Oman National Team, Kane Richards of Roojain Insurance went immediatley from KM0.
They did not stand much of a chance however because all of the sprinters got over the early test of the Jabal Road climb and they were eager to get a bunch sprint organized for the opening stage.
In the finale, Visma-Lease a Bike had the best control of the lead out for Olav Kooij but Fernando Gaviria of Movistar was the first to jump. Kooij came around, followed by Pavel Bittner of Picnic-PostNL. Bittner could not get out of Kooij's slipstream and finished in second. Erlend Blikra of Uno-X Mobility took the long way around the right side of the peloton but he ran out of road and had to settle for third place.
