We are back on Galician roads and there is not a meter of flat on the 133KM route between Marín and A Estrada. There are no sustained climbs on the route, just constantly rolling roads. The riders take on two laps of a finishing circuit that includes the Alto de San Vicenzo which is 2.5KM at 7% and the climb to the finish in A Estrada, 1.9KM at 5.6%. The climbs on the second lap start around 13KM from the finish which should be quite selective and will likely draw out the main contenders for the GC.
Three riders went up the road including Rémi Daumas of Groupama-FDJ, Ander Okamika of Burgos Burpellet of BH, and Alvaro Sagrado of Illes Balears Arabay. Their lead was 3 minutes 10 seconds with 66KM to go and were being controlled by the Uno-X Mobility led peloton. The turn onto the Alto de San Vicenzo was very narrow, creating a fight from the bunch to get there in good position. Israel-Premier Tech led in and the gap melted down to just 1 minute 50 seconds with 48KM to go. The gap held at 50 seconds as the break went through the finish line for 1 final lap of 35KM, finally getting caught 18.5KM from the line.
It was a mad dash to the foot of the Alto de San Vicenzo for the final time with 13.5KM to go. Uno-X Mobility led into the climb but Israel-Premier Tech took up the pace. Derek Gee of Israel-Premier Tech attacked on a steep corner, 1.5KM to the top. He never turned around to ask for help, he just set his pace. Gee had Rémy Rochas of Groupama-FDJ, Mauri Vansevenant of Soudal Quickstep, Davide Piganzoli of Polti-VisitMalta, Jefferson Cepeda of Movistar, and Andreas Kron of Uno-X Mobility with him over the top. A group of around 30 riders, including race leader Magnus Cort, were chasing at 20 seconds behind. Uno-X Mobility had the resources to pull it all back together with 6KM to go.
Maxime Decomble of Groupama-FDJ counter attacked out of the peloton and put up an impressive ride but he was slowly pulled back by Uno-X Mobility with 1.1KM to go as the uphill sprint to the line was shaping up. Andreas Kron led through the final right corner with 350M to go with Cort on his wheel. Iván Cobo of Equipo Kern Pharma stated the sprint first from third wheel. Cort was looking back to his right but Cobo went left and got a good jump. Cort realized it and wound up his sprint. Once he got to speed, he was untouchable. He came around Cobo with 100M to go and put in significant daylight behind. Martin Marcellusi of VF Group-Bardiani CSF-Faizanè was the closest when Cort hit the finish line, with hometown hero Carlos Canal of Movistar taking third place. Cobo faded 50M from the line and had to settle for fifth on the day.
