The final stage of the 100th edition of the Tour of Hungary was a spicy one. Time gaps in the GC were still really tight and with time bonuses given on two of the three laps around the finish circuit, changes could be made. At the first Intermediate Sprint, Albert Withen Philipsen of Lidl-Trek won the sprint and took 3 seconds back on GC to move him a bit closer to Alessandro Covi of UAE-XRG.
A break eventually got away for the middle section of the race, they were comprised of Owen Geleijn and Baptiste Huyet of Unibet-Tietema Rockets, Jakub Otruba of Caja Rural-Seguros RGA, Luca Colnaghi of VF-Group Bardiani CSF-Faizanè, Tord Wikander of Epronex-Hungary Cycling, Zétény Szijártó of United Shipping, and Siebe Deweirdt of Flanders-Baloise. Lidl-Trek pulled in the peloton to bring the race back together for the bonus sprints on the local circuit but the break was able to stay away for the first set, leaving just one more sprint with seconds available. Two riders remained out front for the second sprint, leaving just 1 second available which Covi snagged but 1 second was inconsequential to the GC and not a threat for Harold Martín López.
The finish circuit was very technical with numerous corners through tight streets and cobbles that lined the final kilometer before another tight right corner which takes them to the finish line. Otruba and Geleijn were only caught with 1KM to go as Jayco AlUla were leading the bunch but their lead out got disorganized and Ivo Oliveira of UAE-XRG took control for the final few corners. His pace was so high through the final 500M that, when finally pulled off after the last corner, only a handful of riders were still in contention. Danny van Poppel of Redbull-Bora Hansgrohe opened his sprint when Oliveira pulled off but Juan Sebastián Molano of UAE-XRG came off the wheel and blasted up the dragging finish straight to take the win. Van Poppel was second with Tim Torn Teutenberg of Lidl-Trek in third.
Harold Martín López of XDS-Astana retained his lead to take the overall victory by 7 seconds to Alessandro Covi of UAE-XRG and 10 seconds to Albert Withen Philipsen of Lidl-Trek.
