Tour of Slovenia 2025 Stage 2

June 5, 2025 Five riders made the break of the day including Fabio Christen of Q36.5, Diego Uriarte of Equipo Kern Pharma, Mihael Štajnar of Pogi Team Gusto Ljubljana, Teo Pečnik of Adria Mobil, and Andrea Piras of Solution Tech-Vini Fantini. On the lumpy route coming into the finish, a group of six split off the front of the peloton consisting of Anders Johannessen of Uno-X Mobility, Tao Geoghegan Hart of Lidl-Trek, Felix Großschartner and Rui Oliveira of UAE-XRG, Jakob Omrzel of Bahrain Victorious, and Sjoerd Bax of Q36.5. Only Christen from the original break was able to stay with the new group making seven riders at the front. With 3KM to go, they were working well and had 1 minute on the peloton with Polti-VisitMalta chasing. Bax led the group from 1500M to 300M to go when Großschartner picked it up for Oliveira. Christen got a jump with 250M to go but Oliveira was quick to respond. The pair were side by side until Oliveira moved slightly left, forcing Christen to check up momentarily. Oliveira came across the line for what we thought was his first professional win. A short time later, the UCI Commissaires relagated Oliveira to sixth place due to his move which gave Christen the win for Q36.5 with Johannessen in second and Geoghegan Hart in third. Christen also took over the race lead, sitting 16 seconds ahead of Johannessen and 21 seconds ahead of Geoghegan Hart.
