The riders have nearly 200KM of racing over hard terrain from Novi Ligure, through the mountains, to the Ligurian Sea in Genova. The final climb of the Madonna Della Guardia is 7KM at almost 8%. The top comes just over 20KM from the finish and could be a launch point for a bid to victory.
XDS-Astana went 1-3 with Diego Ulissi winning solo, 9 seconds ahead of Andrii Ponomar of Petrolike and 14 seconds Simone Velasco who led a group of 15 riders in, 14 seconds behind Ulissi.
