Cian Uijtdebroeks of Visma-Lease a Bike put on the performance of his career up to this point. The Belgium attacked halfway up the Col du Grand Columbier and was solo for the next 50KM, arriving at the finish in Belley for the win and a huge gap of 3 minutes 5 seconds to Nicolas Prodhomme of Decathlon AG2R. There was another chunk of time to Ben Tulett of Visma-Lease a Bike who finished third at 5 minutes 33 seconds. The stage and the GC were the first two wins for Uijtdebroeks who was touted as a rising star a few years ago and is starting to realize his potential.
