Today was the first of two chances for the sprinters in the four day Czech Tour. The 163KM stage started in Prague and moved West towards the German border to Karlovy Vary for the finish. Three categorized climbs and an intermediate sprint gave the break something fight for but the elevation gain was nothing that stressed the sprinters so it would be a bunch sprint.
The break was caught and at 4KM to go, Soudal Quickstep had control and were driving the pace. ATT Investments were also fighting for position at the front but Yves Lampaert of Soudal Quickstep expertly guided the Belgian team into the last kilometer. XDS-Astana came from nowhere with three men and took the lead through a sweeping left bend at 500M to go. A right corner came at 225M which tightened up more than some expected but Luke Lamperti of Soudal Quickstep had the perfect line. He accelerated out of the corner and was first to cross the finish line for his first win of the season and his first since he won the opening stage of the Czech Tour last year. Davide Donati of Redbull-Bora Hansgrohe continues to show his sprint prowess to take second ahead of Gleb Syritsa of XDS-Astana.
