The 148KM route from Prostějov to Ostrava, the third largest city in the Czech Republic, is about as straightforward of a sprint stage as you can imagine. The only categorized climb comes with 100KM still to race and it is very much a big ring climb that the sprinters shouldn't have difficulty on. The rest of the stage continues to head East until the riders reach the streets of Ostrava with 5KM to go. The last corner is 400M from the line so the fast men will be able to see the finish and timing their sprint will be crucial. Luke Lamperti won on this finish last year and, based on his sprint from Stage 1, you wouldn't bet against him doing the same today.
Temperatures were still high at 31C (88F) at the start. From KM0, 5 riders got away including Nicolò Garibbo of JCL-UKYO, Mateusz Kostański of Voster ATS, Loïc Bettendorff of Hrinkow Advarics, Casper van der Woude of Metec-SolarWATT, Dominik Röber of Benotti Berthold. Garibbo dropped out of the break after the one and only climb leaving the remaining four riders to press on and with 51KM to go, they had just over 1 minute on the peloton. The XDS-Astana Development Team were setting the pace along with Soudal Quickstep. Joris Reinderink of Metec-SolarWATT went on the attack from the peloton with 36KM to go but the speed in the bunch wasn't slow and he was brought back after a few kilometers.
Bettendorff sprinted away from the rest of the break with 25KM to go and did a very strong ride out front alone. He was only caught with 8KM to go when the peloton changed from Soudal Quickstep leading to color order drag racing. With 3KM to go, the peloton split in half with Soudal Quickstep at the front on the right side and ATT Investments leading the left side. The fight for the final corner was won by Soudal Quickstep with Luke Lamperti sitting in third wheel through the left corner. Lamperti opened up as he hit the pavers in the center of town and looked like he had the win wrapped up but Liam Walsh of CCACHE x BODYWRAP timed it perfectly and came around the American as he started to fatigue. Walsh won comfortably and in doing so, beat some of the quickest guys in the professional peloton. Marceli Bogusławski of ATT Investments took the final podium spot on the day.
