Place Name: Woburn Road
Address: Woburn Road, Ampthill, Bedford, MK45 2HX, United Kingdom
Details: September 4, 2025
The distance between the start in Milton Keynes and the finish in Ampthill is about 20KM but the riders have to go the long way before they can cross the finish line. There is slightly more climbing per kilometer than the previous two days but with just 850M across 122KM, we should still see a bunch sprint. After leaving Milton Keynes, the riders head East and North through Barton-le-Clay and Herlow before entering a circuit at 72KM from the finish. There are one and a half laps of the 33KM circuit which contain a KOM and a sprint on each lap. The riders exit the circuit with 13KM to go for the final run to the finish which includes some lumpy terrain but nothing that the sprinters can't get over.
More rain jackets were donned at the start and road spray was flying as the break formed. Casper Pedersen of Soudal Quickstep, Mats Wenzel of Equipo Kern Pharma, Ben Chilton of the British National Team, and Robin Froidevaux of Tudor Pro Cycling got away but Visma-Lease a Bike started controlling right away and kept the gap around 1 minute. Wenzel took both intermediate sprints and the first of the KOM's with Chilton taking the second KOM at 17KM to go. On the second KOM, Axel Huens of Unibet-Tietema Rockets attacked from the peloton but did not manage to bridge the gap to the break and was forced to settle back into the peloton.
A small group led by Remco Evenepoel of Soudal Quickstep got a gap on the peloton but with 1KM to go, the race was all together and primed for a bunch sprint. Unibet-Tietema Rockets were leading but Visma-Lease a Bike came up with three men. Edoardo Affini led Olav Kooij and Matthew Brennan. After Affini pulled off, Kooij switched roles and played lead out for Brennan and tucked in behind Matteo Trentin of Tudor Pro Cycling who was working for Alberto Dainese. When Trentin pulled off with 300M to go, Kooij took to the front and only peeled off with about 110M to go. When Brennan launched, the result was not in doubt. The young Brit powered home to take the 12th win of his first season as a professional. Dainese was able to grab second place with Rui Oliveira of UAE-XRG rounding out the podium in third.
