October 5, 2025 The Italian one-day's continue with the 78th running of the Coppa Agostoni - Giro delle Brianze. The 167KM race starts in Lissone and follows the Lambro River North to find a circuit that plays with the hills and valley's just South of Como. The four laps accumulate to over 3,000M of elevation with three climbs on each lap. The first is the Sitori, 1.5KM at 5.7%. 6KM later comes the Colle Brianza which is 3.6KM at 6.4% with the 2KM, 6.7% Lissolo topping out 12KM later. Last year, a group of four came to the finish with the sprint won by Marc Hirshi and, with the course remaining about the same, we could see a similar group come to the finish today due to the 35KM of flat road from the top of Lissolo to the finish. The first part of the race was rapid and very aggressive. No group got established until much later when UAE-XRG stacked a move of seventeen with four riders. With 52KM to go, UAE-XRG were riding as the responsibility was squarely on their shoulders to keep the group ahead of the chasers behind. Riders were everywhere and on the final ascent of the Colle Brianza, Adam Yates of UAE-XRG attacked and only Carlos Canal of Movistar could follow. Thirteen riders were still together in the chase but by the top at 48KM to go, the two leaders had over 30 seconds. Paul Lapeira of Decathlon AG2R attacked from the chase group on a short, steep ramp with 40.5KM to go. Lapeira got away, marked by Jay Vine of UAE-XRG, and quickly established a gap over the rest of the chase group that had slowed down considerably. There was zero organization which allowed a larger group on the road to join the second chase group to make over 20 riders in pursuit. The main problem though was that Movistar and UAE-XRG were heavily represented and any further move to break away was immediately marked with one or both of those teams. Yates and Canal crested the Lissolo climb with 36.5KM to go and were over 1 minute ahead of the large chase group and about 25 seconds up on Lapeira and Vine. Vine wouldn't work with Lapeira and the Frenchman decided to give up the chase and go back into the larger group. With 20KM to go, Yates and Canal had built over 2 minutes as the chase was a constant start-stop and the win would likely be taken be one of the two. Disaster struck for Movistar at 17.5KM to go when Canal got a rear flat tire through a corner with a poor surface. He got a reasonably quick bike change from the team car but had a hard chase ahead of him. Yates was not about to wait and pushed on to open an advantage. Canal tried to time trial back but the gap only widened. When Yates crossed the finish line, he had put 1 minute 15 seconds into Canal who was visibly disappointed. Simone Velasco of XDS-Astana led a group of over 30 riders in for third place ahead of Lapeira in fourth, over 2 minutes after Yates.
